A quartet of former Intel directors, including David Yoffie, Reed Hundt, Charlene Barshefsky, and Jim Plummer, have suggested splitting the company into two parts to revive it after incurring losses of $5.87 billion in the last 2.5 years. The executives believe that this move would help the United States maintain its strength in artificial intelligence and defense by keeping crucial manufacturing plants and technologies in the country. They argue that relying on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) poses significant security risks. The proposed split would follow the path taken by AMD and GlobalFoundries in 2009, which stabilized their operations and attracted new orders.
