The "10 Greatest Benefactors" charity event, held on October 27th at the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) building, aimed to raise funds for the MCA-Carlsberg Education Fund. The fund will provide financial assistance to more Chinese students in Malaysia to pursue their studies.
The event was a huge success, with influential figures from various industries participating in the ceremony. Notable Malaysian artists performed thrilling stage shows, further highlighting the importance of education.
The "10 Greatest Benefactors" initiative was established in 1987, when ten prominent musicians performed in aid of the charity. Since then, the event has continued to grow, collecting over 5 million Malaysian dollars for more than 700 local schools. It has been recognized as the longest-running and highest-fundraising Chinese education charity event in Malaysia.
This year's "10 Greatest Benefactors" was co-organized by the Nanyang Siang Pau and China Press, running through the middle of October to cover various locations across Malaysia. This event at the MCA building was an integral part of the "10 Greatest Benefactors".
MCA president Tan Sri Kederan Wee highlighted that the MCA-Carlsberg Education Fund has disbursed nearly 7 million ringgit in interest-free scholarships and over 2 million ringgit in interest-free student loans to over 1,200 students in Malaysia, enabling them to pursue their studies and achieve their academic goals.
He emphasized that education is the foundation of a nation's strength, and the Chinese community has always prioritized education. He hopes that the Malaysian Chinese community, Chinese associations, and individuals who value education, businesses, political parties, and the government will continue to support the "10 Greatest Benefactors" and the MCA-Carlsberg Education Fund to ensure the sustainable development of Chinese education in Malaysia.
On the other hand, MCA permanent honorary president and advisor, Dr. Tan Sen Hua, believes that the combined efforts of the Chinese media, businesses, and associations successfully driving the "10 Greatest Benefactors" is a shining example of the four pillars of the Chinese community, Chinese commerce, Chinese education, and Chinese media working together harmoniously. He hopes that this spirit of self-strengthening will continue to be upheld and promoted for the greater good of the community.
