The UK's Education Minister, Philipson, has announced a 3.1% increase in tuition fees for universities in England, starting from the fall of next year. The new tuition fees will be set at £9,535 per year (approximately $12,348 USD), marking the first time the fees have been adjusted since 2016.
According to the government, the main reason for the increase is inflation and financial pressure on the higher education sector. UK universities are currently facing a decline in domestic student tuition fees and a decrease in international student applications, with data showing a 16% drop in international student visa applications in the third quarter of the year.
Although the government has announced measures to help vulnerable groups access higher education, opposition parties have criticized the decision, stating that students will be one of the victims of the government's tax reforms.
