Microsoft has unveiled Hyperlight, a hypervisor designed to isolate separate functions in applications. This hypervisor is implemented as a shareable library, allowing for the execution of individual functions in lightweight virtual machines (micro-VMs) and enabling data exchange with these functions. The code for the project is written in Rust and is released under the Apache 2.0 license.

In the future, Microsoft plans to transfer the project to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), a non-profit organization that oversees the development of projects such as Kubernetes, etcd, Cilium, Containerd, cri-o, Flux, Helm, Istio, and gRPC. This decision aims to establish a neutral platform, independent of individual vendors, for the collaborative development of Hyperlight.

Linux / Linux enthusiasts can follow the news and updates on the Hyperlight project by joining the relevant Telegram channel. The project's code and documentation are available for review and contribution, providing an opportunity for the open-source community to participate in its development and advancement.
