The Spanish influenza pandemic had a profound impact on the northern regions of the Kingdom of Hungary, now modern-day Slovakia. The purpose of this study is to compare and contrast two distinct types of available epidemiological data: the statistical reports compiled by the Hungarian city and county administrators, and the civil death records spanning the period from September to December 1918.
In the initial portion of this paper, the historical context of the second wave of the pandemic and the implementation of anti-epidemic measures will be thoroughly discussed. The subsequent section will be devoted to an in-depth analysis of the pandemic data pertaining to various regions of present-day Slovakia. It is envisioned that the partial data presented in this study will provide a representative case study on the progression of the pandemic and the associated mortality rates in this specific region of the former Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.
