Roskomnadzor, the Russian telecommunications regulator, has blocked the popular messaging app Viber in Russia. The reason behind this move is simple: Viber failed to comply with Russian legislation, specifically failing to fulfill tasks aimed at preventing the use of the platform for terrorism, extremism, the sale of narcotics, and the distribution of prohibited information. This is a classic case of non-compliance with local regulations.

In 2022, Viber Media established a representative office in Russia as part of a law aimed at 'grounding' foreign internet companies. However, the lawmakers forgot that since 2018, under the 'Yarovaya package,' companies have been required to store user communications for six months and share them with law enforcement agencies at their first request.

It seems that in today's world, there are very few users of Viber.
