Apple will discontinue iCloud backup services for iOS 8 and earlier versions of iPhone and iPad on December 17, 2024.
Affected devices running iOS 8 and earlier will no longer be able to back up their data to iCloud after this date. This means that any existing backups will be deleted.
To avoid data loss, Apple recommends that users upgrade to iOS 9 or later before May 17, 2025. After this date, devices running iOS 8 or earlier will no longer be able to back up or restore data from iCloud.
Backup and restore requirements for iOS 9 or later versions:
- iCloud backup requires iOS 9 or later
- iCloud restore requires iOS 9 or later
Please note that users will need to upgrade their device to iOS 9 or later to continue backing up their data to iCloud or to restore data from iCloud backups. Data will be deleted from iCloud if the device remains on iOS 8 or earlier after May 17, 2025.
