Recently, my mother told me that her bank card had been unauthorizedly charged multiple times, prompting me to open her Alipay account to find out what was happening. To my surprise, I discovered that she had bound 7-8 automatic renewal platforms, each with a theme that catered to older adults. The membership fees were staggering, with some charging as much as 278 yuan per month. After tallying up the total, I found that she was being charged nearly 900 yuan per month, amounting to over 12,000 yuan over the past year. My mother claimed she had no recollection of setting up these subscriptions, so I assumed that her lack of understanding of technology had led to her mistakes. She might have accidentally clicked on an advertisement and been prompted to subscribe without realizing it. However, after conducting research, I found that Alipay does not provide a way to disable automatic renewals. This incident made me realize that older individuals may be more susceptible to online scams due to their limited understanding of technology and unfamiliarity with certain features. The discovery also raised concerns about the potential risks of installing numerous apps on a phone, many of which may be unknown to the user. I hope that sharing this story may prompt others to be more cautious and vigilant in protecting their digital assets.
