The US Department of Justice has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Google, accusing the search engine giant of monopolizing the online search market. The DoJ is demanding that Google sell its Chrome browser, share search results with competitors, and more. Google has responded with its own proposal, agreeing to prohibit default search engine agreements with phone manufacturers for the next three years. The proposal also includes the condition that Google's long-standing partnership with Apple can only continue if Apple is allowed to choose a different default search engine every year. Furthermore, Google is willing to ban phone manufacturers from forcing the installation of its Gemini Assistant mobile app. Google believes that its proposal addresses the core issues and that longer restrictions would stifle innovation in the rapidly developing search industry. The DoJ, however, is pushing for a 10-year restriction, whereas Google is only willing to accept a three-year limit.
