China's military seems to be expressing different views on Xi Jinping's consolidation of power
On December 1, the Central Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) published an article on its official social media account, introducing a conference held by the 83rd Group Army. The article was accompanied by a photo of a gold-framed slogan hung on the wall, which was advocated by the 83rd Group Army at the conference.
The slogan consisted of four key points: collective leadership, democratic centralism, individual deliberation, and decision-making through meetings. The slogan meant that in a collective leadership system, democratic centralism must be comprehensively implemented. Important matters need to be deliberated individually and properly discussed, and decisions should be made through meetings.
At first glance, this seems to have no problem. However, in today's China, this slogan seems extremely challenging.
More importantly, this challenge comes from within the army.
The 83rd Group Army openly advocated for these four points, while Xi Jinping, who has come to power since 2012, has consolidated power drastically into his own hands.
Moreover, the article by the Central Theater Command did not mention Xi Jinping or any political terms such as 'uniform leadership', 'two establishes', and 'two maintains' to guarantee his power.
