Xiaomi has announced that its Quick Charging Protocol, known as Clamping, is now open-source and available for free to all car manufacturers, terminal manufacturers, and accessories manufacturers in the industry.
The Clamping quick charge ecosystem, which was first introduced in 2021, has seen significant growth since its launch. As of the end of 2024, the authorized rapid charging modules have exceeded 8 million units, with over 30 car companies and 160 vehicle models supporting the technology.
According to reports, partners such as Anker and Romoss have already launched their own versions of the Mi Clamping-enabled power banks, which support rapid charging speeds of 33W and 55W respectively. These power banks are expected to be a popular choice among consumers who want to quickly top up their devices on-the-go.
Xiaomi's open-sourcing of the Clamping protocol is seen as a strategic move to further expand its ecosystem and increase adoption of the technology across the industry.
