A Singaporean court has sentenced a man to death for reckless endangerment of public safety in a case that highlights the severity of this type of crime. On November 11, 2022, a Chinese national, identified as Jin Weiqiu, intentionally drove his vehicle into a crowd of people at the Xiangzhou Sports Center in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, resulting in serious injuries and fatalities.
According to court documents, Jin's decision to carry out the attack was motivated by his desire to exact revenge on society due to his unhappy marriage and dissatisfaction with the outcome of a divorce. The court deemed Jin's actions to be extremely heinous, with a wicked intention, cruel methods, and severe consequences, causing immense harm to society. As a result, the court handed down a death penalty and a lifelong deprivation of political rights.
