A passenger plane carrying 181 people, including 173 Koreans and two Thais, crashed at Muan International Airport on the southern island of Jeju on December 29, 2022. The plane, a Boeing 737-800, was coming from Bangkok and made a hard landing after deviating from the runway, hitting a wall and bursting into flames. According to local officials, the plane made a stomach landing without its landing gear properly extending, causing the aircraft to skid and lose control.

The occupants of the plane were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. According to the latest report, 62 people were confirmed dead in the crash. The cause of the crash is believed to be a collision with birds during the landing process.

The incident occurred at around 9:00 am local time. The plane was operated by Jeju Air and was carrying 175 passengers and 6 crew members on board. The South Korean government has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
