Sex experts are predicting that 2025 will see a surge in popularity of several new trends, including edging, sensory deprivation, and chastity locks. According to Dr. Jessica O'Reilly, a sex therapist, incorporating multiple senses, such as aromatherapy, edible lubricants, and silky fabrics, can enhance intimate experiences. Edging, which involves prolonging the time to orgasm, can also increase the intensity of the experience. Chastity locks, which are typically worn by men and controlled by a keyholder, have seen a 193% increase in interest since 2020, with a 71% surge in 2024 alone.
Other trends that are expected to gain popularity include sober sex, where members of the Gen Z generation are exploring the idea of engaging in intimate activities without the use of alcohol, and body hair retention, where fewer women are opting for hair removal. Open relationships and polyamory are also becoming more mainstream.
