Paraguay is renowned for its rich traditional sweets and is often referred to as a paradise for sweet-tooths. Renowned chef and culinary professor, Eugenia Aquino, has recommended six classic desserts that showcase the country's unique flavors. First up is 'Kaguyjy', a sweet treat made with corn, milk, sugar, citric acid, and a touch of orange or lemon zest. Next is 'Kosereva', a citrusy delight made with orange zest and sugar, which has been recognized as a culinary heritage by the Paraguayan National Intellectual Property Institute. Another popular dessert is 'Mbaipy He'e', a sweet corn pudding that can be mixed with 'black honey' or sugar and enjoyed hot. Additionally, Paraguay's traditional 'black honey' paired with peanuts and guava jam is a favorite among locals. Furthermore, Eugenia's grandmother, an early food writer, passed down her famous mango jam recipe, which requires fresh mango, sugar, water, and spices, and is then cooked and cooled to create a bright yellow preserve.
