Russia's first 'green' energy plant, which uses advanced waste-to-energy technology, has started operating in the Moscow region and is expected to power 80,000 people. The plant, built by the RTO-Intest corporation, uses technology similar to that employed in Japan, Switzerland, and Finland. It will process 700,000 tons of household waste per year, producing 520 million kWh of green energy. The waste treatment process involves sorting, recycling, and incineration to generate electricity. The plant's commissioning occurred ahead of schedule, with initial expectations of a 2025 start date. In addition to this project, three more waste-to-energy plants are underway in the Moscow region, along with one in Tatarstan. Once completed, the five power plants will have a combined capacity of 3.3 million tons of waste per year, allowing for the production of 2.2 million MWh of green energy.
