The Asia-Pacific region has achieved a significant milestone in IPv6 adoption, with a 50% coverage rate, according to data from the Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC). This achievement marks a 25-year journey since the introduction of IPv6 in Asia. China and India have been the primary drivers of IPv6 adoption in the region, thanks to their large internet user bases, government support, and significant investment in recent years. The early depletion of IPv4 addresses forced both countries to transition to IPv6 as they expanded their networks. Currently, the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) region leads with a 52% IPv6 coverage rate, but APNIC accounts for 64% of the world's IPv6 users, far exceeding other regions. Europe/Middle East and South America follow closely, with IPv6 adoption rates of 28% and 39%, respectively. Africa has the lowest IPv6 penetration at 4%. The article highlights the importance of IPv6 adoption and its implications for the future of the internet.
