The Gigabyte B75M-D3H motherboard, released in 2012, has recently received an unexpected BIOS update that enables support for NVMe storage through a firmware update to F16f. Although the patch was intended to fix the PKfail vulnerability, an analysis of the BIOS revealed that it includes built-in NVMe drivers. Notably, despite lacking an M.2 slot, the board allows for loading from an SSD via an M.2-PCIe adapter. It is possible that other older models, which received BIOS updates in the fall of 2024, may also possess this capability, but this has not been publicly disclosed by the manufacturers.
