YouTube has recently started testing 30-second unskippable ads on its platform, primarily targeting users of smart TVs and Chromecast devices. This new ad format was previously only available to high-end ad packages, but it has now been made available to more advertisers through regular ad placement options. The new ads can range from 16 seconds to 30 seconds in length, and viewers are unable to skip them. Additionally, YouTube will continue to display 6-second and 15-second unskippable ads to reinforce ad visibility. Users who wish to reduce ad interruptions can subscribe to YouTube Premium, but even paid subscribers may still see ads on YouTube Shorts. Currently, YouTube is also exploring a low-cost subscription option for shared use by two people.
