Microsoft has recently restructured its Outlook team, entrusting a new leadership to rebuild the email client from scratch for the AI age. In an internal memo, Gaurav Sareen, the global vice president of experience and platform, expressed that the company has the opportunity to reimagine Outlook from the ground up, rather than simply adding AI features to the traditional experience.
Sareen envisions the future Outlook as a 'digital assistant' that can read emails, draft responses, and organize schedules. He instructed the team to conduct weekly experiments instead of quarterly ones and to complete prototype designs and testing within a few days. This significant overhaul comes after Microsoft completed the development of the web-based 'One Outlook' client, which aimed to replace the Windows, Mac, and web versions of Outlook.
The new Outlook is expected to be a game-changer in the email client landscape, leveraging AI to provide a more personalized and efficient experience for users. With its focus on AI-driven features and a revamped user interface, the rebuilt Outlook is poised to revolutionize the way people communicate and manage their emails.
