On October 26, 2025, a rare double aircraft accident occurred in the South China Sea, causing international concern. The USS Nimitz, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, was conducting routine operations when two aircraft crashed into the sea, just 30 minutes apart.

At 2:45 pm, a MH-60R Seahorse multi-purpose helicopter, which was part of the USS Nimitz's crew, crashed into the sea. The helicopter was carrying three crew members, but all were safely rescued without any injuries. The US Pacific Fleet quickly launched a search and rescue operation.

Just 30 minutes later, at 3:15 pm, an F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter jet, which was part of the VFA-22 'Red Eagles' strike fighter squadron, also experienced an accident and crashed into the South China Sea. The two pilots successfully ejected and were rescued by a rescue team, and their condition is currently stable.

The US Navy has officially stated that all personnel involved in the incidents are safe and in good condition, and an investigation into the causes of the accidents is underway.
