Ideal Automobile Co., Ltd. has announced a recall of 11,411 units of the MEGA 2024 electric vehicle model, produced between February 18, 2024, and December 27, 2024. The recall is a response to a series of incidents where the vehicles caught fire while in motion. An investigation revealed that the root cause of the issue was the inadequate corrosion resistance of the cooling liquid, which led to the corrosion and leakage of the aluminum cooling plate in the power battery and front motor controller. This, in turn, caused the malfunctioning of the vehicle's systems, including the illumination of warning lights, power restriction, and inability to start the engine. In extreme cases, the power battery may experience thermal runaway, posing a significant safety risk. To address this issue, Ideal Automobile will replace the cooling liquid, power battery, and front motor controller free of charge for the affected vehicles. Additionally, the company has activated a cloud-based warning system and is providing emergency assistance through its customer service hotline, vehicle Ecall, and other channels.
