Pony.ai, a Chinese autonomous driving company, has announced that it has become the first company to obtain a permit for robotaxis in all of Shenzhen, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of autonomous driving services from trial areas to entire cities. This development comes after the company's announcement that it will collaborate with local taxi company Westlake Group to deploy over 1,000 seventh-generation autonomous taxis in Shenzhen over the next few years. The seventh-generation taxis, developed in partnership with Toyota and state-owned automakers BAIC and GAC, boast a 70% reduction in material costs compared to earlier models. This achievement is expected to pave the way for the widespread adoption of autonomous driving technology in China, with Pony.ai's robotaxis set to revolutionize the transportation landscape in Shenzhen and beyond.
