Microsoft has recognized a bug in the latest update KB5067036 for the Windows 11 development branch (Builds OS 26200.7019 and 26100.7019). The issue arises when closing the Task Manager in the usual manner, as the taskmgr process remains active. Upon repeated restarts, new copies are created, and over time, a large number of duplicates can accumulate.

This can lead to a significant load on the system, particularly for users who put the system to sleep instead of restarting. In such cases, the system's workload can become critical.

The company notes that the bug affects Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. A fix is currently being developed, and in the meantime, Microsoft recommends closing unnecessary processes manually through the Task Manager or command prompt.

The screenshot below illustrates the issue, where multiple instances of the taskmgr process are running, consuming system resources and CPU.
