Disney has announced a three-year partnership with OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence company, to create user-generated content with AI-powered characters. The collaboration will allow users to create short videos featuring over 200 Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars characters, which will be available on Disney+. The partnership also includes the use of OpenAI's API to create new products and deploy ChatGPT for Disney employees. The companies expect to launch the first batch of fan-created videos by 2026, with a focus on implementing copyright and security controls. This move comes as Disney continues to take a strong stance against AI copyright infringement, having previously partnered with OpenAI and taken legal action against Meta, Midjourney, and other AI companies. In a separate development, Disney has sent a cease and desist letter to Google, accusing the company of 'massively' infringing on its copyrights by using its IP to train AI models and commercialize the content on YouTube. Disney has made it clear that it will not tolerate the use of its IP to gain a market advantage.
