The UK government is taking a significant step to regulate online content on devices, including iPhones and Android smartphones. According to a report by the Financial Times, authorities are requiring Apple and Google to integrate algorithms into their operating systems that automatically detect and block images of nude bodies. This initiative goes beyond filtering websites and aims to prevent the creation and dissemination of such images, including by minors.
The block on explicit content will be enabled by default. Adults will need to undergo a mandatory verification process, either through documents or biometrics, to access such content.
This initiative is not limited to smartphones. The UK government also plans to extend similar requirements to all types of devices and involve other electronics manufacturers in implementing these measures.
The UK already has an age verification requirement for accessing pornography. Australia has banned social media for users under 16. In the US, there are withRouter]** proposals for a national age verification system, blocking underage accounts, and mandatory control mechanisms at the platform and device levels.
