The WeTab and Infinity browser extensions, which were previously suspected of collecting user data, have been thoroughly audited by the Microsoft Edge Security Team and have been reinstated in the Microsoft Edge Store. The extensions were removed from the store after a security audit revealed that they contained malicious code, which triggered Microsoft's defense system and led to their removal. However, after several weeks of in-depth code-level review and third-party authority testing, the results confirmed that the extensions do not pose any remote code execution or data theft risks. Users can now safely enable the installed extensions or download the latest versions from the Microsoft Edge Store. The WeTab and Infinity teams have released a statement denying any involvement in the malicious updates and stating that the Clean Master browser extension, which was also implicated in the malicious activity, was sold to a third party in 2024 and is no longer under their control. The statement also notes that the Edge version of Clean Master has been removed from the store. This incident highlights the importance of regular security audits and the need for developers to take responsibility for the security of their extensions.
