South Korea's government has recently proposed the implementation of a 'separate pricing mechanism for disposable cups,' which aims to prohibit coffee shops, restaurants, and other establishments from providing free disposable plastic cups for take-out. According to the proposed scheme, customers will be required to pay an additional fee for using disposable plastic cups. The relevant draft will be published on the 23rd of this month. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change stated that this measure is intended to reduce the consumption of disposable plastic cups by introducing a paid usage mechanism, which will be linked to an incentive mechanism for reusable cups, thereby encouraging consumers to use reusable cups more frequently. This move is part of South Korea's efforts to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable practices.
