Head of Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Dwikorita Karnawati, emphasized the importance of collaboration and cooperation among various parties to ensure the safety of the public from natural disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes. Speaking during the 8th ABU Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Prevention in Bali, Indonesia, Dwikorita highlighted the need for systematic and transformative application of science and technology to mitigate the risks of natural disasters. However, despite continuous monitoring using advanced technology, the public still remains at risk due to the need for simplification of complex technological language. For instance, early warnings for tsunamis and earthquakes should be communicated in simple language to quickly inform and raise public awareness for joint safety. Indonesia is one of the countries highly vulnerable to natural disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, climate change, extreme weather, and volcanic eruptions, which pose multi-hazard threats. Therefore, BMKG is working closely with various agencies, including the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), to address these issues. The goal of this collaboration is not only to share knowledge but also to educate and empower the public to have disaster resilience, where there are no casualties and sustainability. Unfortunately, some individuals lack access to information, which can lead to a gap between advanced technology and simple language. As a result, BMKG is continuously endeavoring to educate and socialize the public through programs like the Outdoor School for Earthquakes and Tsunamis (SLG), where BMKG and the community share knowledge on disaster mitigation from a technology and local wisdom perspective. Participants can eventually become BMKG's representatives to educate the public in their local communities, ensuring that everyone understands early warnings to help each other in the face of disasters. Furthermore, Dwikorita recognizes the crucial role of media in disseminating information and raising public awareness. Radio Republic of Indonesia (RRI) has played a significant role in spreading information on disaster mitigation and early warnings to the public, covering the entire country. The role of media is significant in hastening massive socialization. Thank you to RRI for continuously supporting us, helping us educate the public, empower the community, and socialize with the Indonesian public.
