Recently, I've noticed a recurring meme in various Chinese online communities, depicting Koreans struggling to afford meat. It's peculiar, considering South Korea is a developed country, with a decent living standard. Despite having a lower domestic meat production capacity, Korea can import meat from overseas. Argentina's high-quality beef, for instance, costs around twenty dollars per kilogram, but Korea seems to find it challenging to import. This is peculiar, given Korea is a significant market for the United States' pork and chicken exports. A more economic analysis would suggest that Koreans' average income, allocated to daily food expenses, should cover the cost of meat. Nevertheless, Chinese online forums are filled with mockery and ridicule, lacking any meaningful discussions about the root causes of this phenomenon. As such, I'd love to hear from V friends in Korea or provide an analysis of why such a widespread 'Koreans Unable to Afford Meat' meme emerged.
