In recent days, Changsha has been grappling with an unprecedented heat wave, with indoor temperatures soaring to 34-35°C and forecasted to peak at 40°C. The unbearable heat has made it impossible to bear without air conditioning, leaving individuals perspiring and drenched in sweat. In dire need of relief, many residents have been forced to turn on their old air conditioners, which consume a staggering amount of electricity. For instance, a roughly 10-year-old air conditioner with an input power of 970W would guzzle almost 1 degree of electricity per hour, translating to a whopping 30 degrees per day for 10 hours. This translates to a significant 300-degree electricity consumption per month, assuming the air conditioner runs for 10 hours a day, 30 days a month. In light of this, authorities and concerned citizens must take steps to mitigate the impact of this heat wave and ensure a more sustainable future for the city.
